SAR 830
In 1959 the South Australian Railways ordered ten Alco DL531 locomotives from AE Goodwin of Auburn NSW. Constructed to suit the Standard Gauge, Narrow Gauge, and Broad Gauge networks with locomotives being re-gauged over their lives to suit the changing demands, and some seeing all three gauges. These were related to the NSWGR 48 class locomotives and Silverton Railway's diesels all ordered at similar times with their unique specification differences.
