Silverton DL531s
Silverton DL531s
From 1960 the Silverton Tramway received three Alco DL531 locomotives from AE Goodwin of Auburn NSW for their Narrow Gauge operations, noting the experience and compatibility with the SAR 830s and NSWGR 48s.
Initially delivered in the classic Red and White livery, units 27, 28, and 29 were used heavily prior to the opening of the Standard Gauge line. At that time, 27 was sold to the SAR, with 28 and 29 swapped to Standard Gauge bogies, seeing service to the modern era with transfers of ownerships to multiple companies.
These were related to the NSWGR 48 class locomotives and SAR 830s all ordered at similar times with their unique specification differences.
